“We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and look after in-room dining services for hotel guests,” says Christine Handrahan. “We are open 365 days a year, so we need a lot of coverage to make sure our guests are taken care of.”
She says there is a nice diversity of positions available at Water’s Edge. “It’s a great team to work with. We have people who are just entering the workforce who are hired as hosts or buffet attendants. We have people trained in restaurant or hospitality management who work as servers, bartenders and supervisors.”
The restaurant advertises jobs in April and May for the busy summer season on various job websites. “We are always eager to fill the supervisor roles because it’s the one where more experience in required. The supervisor’s role is unique. There’s more responsibility in coaching the staff.”
Christine started as a server with the Delta Prince Edward in 2013. “They have been great to offer me opportunities to advance my skill set. I went on to bartending, then part-time supervising, and then in 2015, I became the Assistant Manager for Brakish, the hotel’s seasonal restaurant.”
Delta Prince Edward allowed Christine time off to go traveling. “I was grateful for that and returned in February 2017 to become the Assistant Food & Beverage Manager. In March 2018, I moved up to Food & Beverage Outlets Manager. The hotel has supported my growth by giving me a lot of training opportunities, hearing my ideas, and offering guidance along the way.
“Delta Prince Edward really knows how to grow and develop the team and move people to more senior roles.”
Job seekers must apply to Delta Prince Edward through its website. Every job the company is hiring for in food and beverage, culinary, guest services, housekeeping and laundry, and administration and marketing are posted there. Jobs can be filtered in terms of location, department, full-time or part-time.
“While the first step is an online application, we still welcome people to also come in with their resumés so we can put a face to the names of the online applications,” Christine says. “We are one team. If you were talking to me and wanted to work at the front desk rather than the restaurant, I would recommend you to the Front Office Manager.”
