About the staff
There are offices on PEI an in the mid-west US, and they also employ people who work from remote locations. Including the full-time, part-time, and research collaborators across Canada and the US, there are about 15 people in total.
“Right now, we are looking to hire Software Developers, people who have a background in technical support and customer service, and Project Managers,” says John.
“It is challenging to find people who have a background in veterinary medicine and in technology, but we are willing to train people. If someone has a background in customer service or software development but not in the veterinary world, that’s ok. We invest in our people.”
Working to improve diagnostics
“Right now, we are doing something that I believe will transform veterinary medicine. It originated here at UPEI and the Atlantic Veterinary College. A colleague, Chris Riley, has developed a technology for analysis called FTIR, using infra-red light for laboratory analysis. It can be just as accurate as conventional testing, and it is much faster. This is an incredible advancement, and it is happening here on PEI.”
“In the last decade, we have introduced a web-based system to manage diagnostics across all specializations, such as radiology, cardiology, or ultrasound. We also built a cloud architecture which helps veterinary specialists to collaborate over long distances. With other local researchers, we introduced the first evidence-based drug formulary for veterinary medicine.
“We are going to be introducing several new stand-alone products and mobile products this year, and we are working with people who manage veterinary hospitals to integrate our products.”
