The Department of Social Development and Housing hiring practices

The PEI Department of Social Development and Housing contributes to the well-being of individuals, families, and communities by working to promote the development of healthy, self-reliant individuals.

Hiring needs

Two careers are in high demand:

  • Child and Youth Care Worker for group homes
  • Child Protection Social Worker

Child and Youth Care Worker: Requirements for this position are a successful completion of a Child and Youth Care Worker diploma and/or successful completion of a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in the social sciences.

Human Services or Early Childhood Education programs may be considered for the youth worker position. Experience working directly with children and youth in a residential setting as well as direct family work and outreach experience is also required.

Child Protection Social Worker: Requirements for this position are a Master of Social Work or a Bachelor of Social Work with social work experience. Must be eligible for registration with the PEI Social Work Registration Board and for delegation under the PEI Child Protection Act.

There are casual and temporary opportunities that can lead to permanent employment.

International students are welcome to apply for positions.

“If you are with us for a year, we have a training fund that provides $2,500 a year to further your education,” says Raymond.

Wages

Child and Youth Care Worker – $26.06 to $31.05 per hour

Child Protection Social Worker – $31.10 to $38.86 per hour
