ALL-TECH Environmental Services Ltd., Charlottetown
This environmental health and safety consulting company has offices in all four Atlantic provinces. In Charlottetown, there is a branch manager and two full-time staff members who have been with the company for many years.
“On PEI, we typically hire a summer student with an environmental technology, technician, or engineering background,” says Melanie Bond. “The student we hired last summer moved to Halifax after his work term, knocked on the Bedford office door, and we hired him for a full-time position. The manager for Nova Scotia started out on PEI in a work term, and now he is the manager in Bedford. He has been with the company for nearly 13 years.
“When we hire summer students, we look for people who are open to working outside normal working hours, because some of our environmental and hazardous materials work is done after hours when buildings are not occupied. We also look for a good work ethic, and sometimes that is hard to find.”
