Royal Star Foods Ltd., Tignish

Jobs: Fish Plant Workers and Labourers for the plant, holding facilities and the wharf, Supervisors, Quality Control Assistants, Data Entry Clerks, Truck Drivers, Forklift Operators, Power Engineers, Receptionist, and more.

“We’re always looking for more full-time fish plant workers,” says Michelle Montemurro. “We also welcome students from high school, university and college.

Royal Star is a lobster processing facility and employs over 300 people on a variety of work shifts. Seasonal jobs start at the end of April until December with short breaks in July and November.

“We are starting to see long-term staff retire, and the student population is declining,” says Michelle. “Students are eligible for the Team Seafood Bursary, which awards $500 to high school students and $1,000 to post-secondary students.”

This past winter, Royal Star workers participated in a wellness program funded through a Health and Wellness Strategy.

“Our workers were offered lunch and learn workshops onsite on nutritional guidance and mental health. We also held exercise and yoga classes at break time. These measures were aimed at helping workers have a healthy work experience and encouraged long-term employment. Royal Star plans to continue the Wellness program in 2019.

“Due to the lack of enough local people, Royal Star uses the Temporary Foreign Worker program to get additional workers for the plant. The company has also helped a number of temporary foreign workers get their permanent residency. We get the benefit of the additional workers and the community gets the benefit of an increased population.

“Royal Star is looking for workers with a positive attitude who are dependable, willing to work long hours, have a good work ethic, and are able to follow direction. On-the-job training is provided.”

How to apply: Come to the office at 175 Judes Point Road, Tignish in person, 8:30 am to 5 pm or email [email protected] or visit www.royalstarfoods.com and follow the links.
