The Physio Center Inc. in Summerside is a multidisciplinary health business that offers physiotherapy, chiropractic, and registered massage therapy services. On March 18, our doors closed, due to COVID-19.
Nine administrative staff and therapists were laid off, appointments were cancelled indefinitely, and patients were left with nowhere to go to have their injuries treated.
The closure led to lots of time researching what benefits would help The Physio Center Inc. stay in business and allow the staff to have jobs to come back to.
We honed our communication skills, listening to patients, asking the right questions, and relying on our knowledge of anatomy to assess what was happening in their body. Patients learned that their home exercise programs were of the utmost importance.
On May 6, we opened to in-person treatment for chiropractic and physiotherapy services. We installed barriers at our reception desk, removed our waiting area, and posted signs about hand washing and waiting for guidance, and made many other changes. We reduced our operating hours to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8 am to 4 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 am to 7 pm.
On May 22, Registered Massage Therapists were able to return to work, which required adjustments to how they typically operate.
“We so appreciate our patients who have returned for services and support our business,” says Blythe Martin, Partner in The Physio Center Inc. “I am relieved to provide a workplace for employees to return to and guidance and rehabilitation to our patients.”
