PEI Seniors Homes: Whisperwood Villa and Garden Home, Charlottetown; Lady Slipper Villa, O’Leary
Jobs: Resident Care Workers, RNs, Dietary staff, Housekeeping/Laundry staff.
PEI Seniors Homes employs about 350 employees at the three locations.
“RCWs make up about half the staff numbers,” says Jason Lee. “We are always looking for good RCWs. We do hire people who are not trained as RCWs, who have practical experience working in Community Care or nursing homes. When we hire staff for RCW work who do not have that designation, we put them through a fairly rigorous five days of classroom training, followed by 10 to 20 on-the-job training days and on-line training before they are ready to work independently.
“We offer in-house, hands-on training combined with an online component that has a library of 150 programs specific to healthcare and long-term care. Staff can do refresher courses on WHMIS and other skills associated with being an RCW and also train for other departments.”
