The Town of Tignish will be hosting a huge Acadian celebration this summer on August 11.
The sixth edition of the Congrès mondial acadien (CMA) will take place from August 10 to 24 on PEI and southeastern New Brunswick. The mission of the CMA is to unite Acadians and all those interested in Acadian culture. It will be PEI’s first time ever hosting the CMA.
The Town of Tignish and le Conseil Rév. S.-É.-Perrey Inc. have joined forces to welcome people, both local and from away, to celebrate their roots. On August 11, the Town of Tignish will celebrate the Congrès with a full day of bilingual activities for people of all ages. Events will include a mass, music, food, carnival acrobats, local crafters, oyster shucking, dinner theatre, and much more.
“We are thrilled to work together to offer all of these amazing events in Tignish,” says Alan McInnis, Mayor of Tignish. “We’ve been working on organizing this event during the last year. We encourage people to mark the date in their calendar and tell their family and friends that they don’t want to miss being in Tignish on August 11.”
This event will require many volunteers:
- Tour guides
- Parking cars
- First aid providers
- Venue operators
- Demonstrators for various activities such as knitting and painting
- Talent: step dancers, square dancers, musicians
- Volunteers to dress in Acadian costume
- and more
Eileen Chiasson-Pendergast has been hired as the Project Coordinator. She wants to stress that the event will require help from many volunteers and local businesses. “If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please contact the organizing committee.”
