“We are here to meet the needs of Islanders,” says Maribeth Vos, Lead Staffing Consultant with the PEI Public Service Commission. “We continue to provide staffing services and are hiring on a continuous basis, based on job demand.”
The PEI Public Service Commission team works as a human resource support partner for the Public Service. This includes providing staffing services to the various government departments and Health PEI.
“As a result of COVID-19, we have adapted our hiring practices to follow the recommendations from our Chief Public Health Officer,” says Maribeth. “We have continued to provide staffing services remotely supporting Health PEI.”
“We are always looking for people who want to make a positive and valuable contribution and who are proud and inspired to shape the future of our Island community,” says Maribeth. “We look for people who have the education and experience required and are interested in contributing to a workplace where they feel inspired to affect positive change, and we encourage them to check out our job ads on the Jobs PEI website.”
Service Workers needed
One of the positions in demand across the province is for casual Service Workers who work in long-term care and acute care. Combined Service Workers are responsible for a variety of housekeeping, dietary, and laundry duties. They also help prepare and serve meals. “We have recently hired a number of Service Workers, and we continue to update our casual list,” says Maribeth.
Applicants must have successfully completed Grade 12 and be capable of sustained physical activity. They must provide a positive updated Criminal Records Check. Some skills include the ability to work well in a team, as well as independently, have a good understanding of oral and written communication, and a demonstrated ability to be reliable, punctual, and have a good attendance record.
Service Workers get in-house training in areas such as Food Safety and ensuring the proper ways of lifting.
