Grand River Ranch, Grand River, west of Summerside
Jobs: Two summer positions and plans to hire more staff in future.
“We have been in operation year-round for about two years,” says Heather Blouin. “We started with two clients who were supported by the provincial Accessibility Support Program. Now we have 28 participants under that program.
“We offer a ranch setting for those who enjoy being outdoors and around a variety of animals. We have an adult day program for men and women as well as youth programs.
“Most of the programing is learning about horsemanship. It is not typical riding lessons, but it is more about the full care of horses and other animals. These programs are very rewarding for our participants.”
Heather and her family have been operating this business on their own, but recently some students from the Holland College Human Services program have joined the ranch.
“Demand has grown, and I need to hire more staff. We have plans to build another facility close to the present location.”
Heather will be looking for staff with experience and a background with Human Services, horses, and other animal care.
