Examining Canadian Labour Market Information: Transforming Data to Action

Labour market information (LMI) is comprised of quantitative and qualitative data on labour market dynamics, including employment statistics, wage trends, occupational demand, and skills gaps. In this session, we will examine approaches to collect and analyze these data to generate timely and nuanced insights about Canada’s labour market.

We will share about The Conference Board of Canada’s Model of Occupations, Skills, and Technology (MOST), and how this model can be used to inform the workforce of tomorrow through functions such as skills assessment, scenario creation, and trend analysis. We will provide an overview of the OpportuNext tool and the data sources behind it. We will also share preliminary findings from recent research conducted for the Future Skills Centre, including a project where we examined the occupations, sectors, and skills most affected by automation, and another where we developed a more accurate labour and skills supply forecasting model that tracks how people’s skills evolve through their career.
