Construction company expansions result in employment opportunities

In 1990, Duffy Construction Ltd., located in Kinkora, was founded by St. Clair Duffy and his son, Robert. Peter, Robert’s brother, joined the company in 2005 and is in the process of becoming a partner in the family owned and operated construction business.
They grew the business by taking on larger commercial and municipal construction projects and water and sewage projects. “We are now one of the top four earthmoving contractors on PEI,” says Robert.
“The company is the largest employer in the area. Employees are mostly from rural PEI. We are expecting a busy construction season for 2018.”

“There are about 10 year-round employees,” says Chris McKenna, Office Administrator. “The company hires year-round and seasonally. About 40 people are hired during the peak season from May to November.
“We have a good pool of people to draw from in the surrounding communities in the Kinkora area.”

“We pay top wages in the heavy construction industry, which is a good living wage for rural PEI,” says Chris.
“Truck Drivers need a Class 1A and 3A license. A Heavy Equipment Operator needs experience.”
Most difficult position to fill
“Flaggers are the most difficult position to fill, as they are called in to work on short notice, and positions are often short-term,” says Chris.
