Cogsdale Corporation – Hiring practices

January 14, 2021

Contact Company

Cogsdale
Paul Maxan, a Team Lead in Research and Development, Cogsdale.

Cogsdale Corporation provides integrated financial solutions to public sector clients as well as development, implementation, and support services. Cogsdale’s enterprise resource planning system includes financials, distribution, utility billing, customer management, enterprise asset management, project management, and procurement.

As a business entity of a larger organization, Harris Computer Systems, Cogsdale can handle the shift in business and adapt to the new way of working easier than a smaller company.

Jobs at Cogsdale include software developers, implementation consultants, project managers, business development, and client support.

Cogsdale has about 80 staff members, half the staff is in Charlottetown, with the rest in remote offices throughout Canada and the United States.

In March, just before the shut-down due to COVID-19, Cogsdale representatives attended a job fair at UPEI.

As with other organizations, things are different for Cogsdale at present. All remote staff had been working from home.  Now, due to recent events, staff in Charlottetown are also working from home.

Because they were equipped for remote work, Cogsdale staff did not see the same culture shock as other organizations, but Cogsdale’s management team is continuously working with HR to ensure that staff needs are addressed.

Hiring policies have not changed. Cogsdale is still working with customers, and if a position needs to be filled and they find the right candidate, it will be. All hiring requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

What are we looking for?

At the job fair, Paul Maxan, a Research and Development Team Lead, described a position the company was looking to fill.

“For the Junior Software Developer position, we look for someone who can do some coding for us,” says Paul.  “We need someone who is willing to learn, who already has some knowledge of programming languages, and is at the beginning of their journey.  Once they have the basics, we can guide them.”

Experience with programming languages such as .NET, C#, Angular, NodeJS, and other web technologies are needed.  “Because we are doing more and more automation, Python would be a language of interest,” says Paul.

Applicants should have a college or undergraduate university degree in math or computer science.  “We are also looking for the right aptitude.  Someone who is a good fit for Cogsdale has an interest in learning, and likes what they are doing,” says Paul.
