Bursaries offered to encourage students to work in the seafood and agriculture sectors

June 20, 2020

The value of bursaries given to students working in the agriculture and seafood industries has doubled this year. The bursaries are designed to promote student employment in the farming and seafood processing sectors.

In addition to their regular wages, students going into grade 11 or 12 who work at least 250 hours in these sectors will receive a $1,000 bursary. Those attending university or college who work at least 500 hours will receive a $2,000 bursary to put towards their education.

Team Seafood Bursary

Work PEI, in collaboration with members of the PEI Seafood Processors Association, has launched a new employment portal for seafood processing jobs at www.workpei.ca/opsi/. “This is the best place for students looking for employment  opportunities in seafood, because it will send their applications directly to employers in their chosen regions who are hiring,” says Jordan Bober, PEI Farm Team and Team Seafood.

“If the applicants indicate they are students, I’ll ensure that they are fully aware of how to enrol in Team Seafood.”

Seafood processing plants are advertising a number of open positions. Students who sign up on www.teamseafood.ca will be matched with opportunities which may arise.

PEI Farm Team Bursary

WorkPEI has launched a job matching portal for jobs in agriculture at www.workpei.ca/alsi/.

If you are interested in working in agriculture, visit www.peifarmteam.ca to get help to connect with a farm opportunity. “I’ll continue to do my best to connect students who sign up on PEI Farm Team with opportunities that I learn about,” says Jordan.

The PEI Agriculture Sector Council has been connecting students and other job seekers with farm employers for the last 27 years.

For more details, call Laurie Loane, Executive Director, at 902–892-2591 or email [email protected].
