The business opened last summer, and they started with about 50 staff who worked within all the aspects of the business, including the Home Place Meat Pies, the restaurant, and catering business.
In the off-season, there are about 25 staff. Many staff return for the season, but they find it difficult to hire enough kitchen staff, which they say is a common trend for most PEI restaurants.
Executive Chef Duncan Smith received his Red Seal Certification in 2005. He was the first PEI Chef to win the International Shellfish Festival Competition with his award winning Seafood Chowder entry in 2007. His recipes have been published in local and national cookbooks and have had some television coverage. “We have always wanted a place of our own to combine and showcase our talents,” says Chef Duncan.
Catering and Events Manager Coreen Pickering has extensive education and experience in the hospitality and tourism industry focusing on restaurants, banquets and special events. “I love bringing events to life, from tradeshows, to receptions, corporate outings, and not for profit fundraisers.”
