Bogside Brewing, Montague
David McGuire of Montague envisioned a craft brewery with an attached restaurant. What started out as an idea a few years ago is now becoming a reality.
A string of empty buildings along Brook Street in Montague is now in the renovation stage. Bogside Brewing is slated to open in late 2017.
“We will be producing beer on site in small batches,” says David. “The restaurant component of the business will feature local produce, seafood, and agri-food, and will utilize a southern-style smoker for low and slow BBQ.
“The year-round restaurant and tap room will have seating for 80 people plus an outdoor patio for 50 more. The goal is to expand on PEI’s culinary offerings and complement what other establishments are offering.”
About the staff
Jobs will be in production, the kitchen, and front end. “We are trying to create a place that will provide great long-term careers for local people,” says David. “We plan to start with about eight to 12 employees, and that number could increase depending on how busy we become.”
“I have recruited a Master Brewer who is highly trained and has a lot of experience. I will be hiring an assistant to the Master Brewer, who will provide apprenticeship training. I’m confident I will find the right mix of workers within Montague and the surrounding area.”

How do you advertise positions?
David plans to recruit workers through the WorkPEI website, the Job Bank, the business website, social media, employee referrals, and word-of-mouth.
How can people apply?
“People are eager for work,” says David. “They’ve been dropping by the work site with their resumés. I am willing to provide tours and take the time to talk with job seekers.”
“It depends on the position,” says David. “There will be a range of highly trained and experienced people needed for some positions. For other positions, the education or experience level is not as important as personality and attitude.”
Best way to get your foot in the door
“Send an email with an attached resumé and follow up with a telephone call,” says David.
When working for the company, what are the keys to successful employment?
“It’s vital to the success of the business to hire the right staff. People who work hard and have a great attitude will be successful. If they lack the necessary skills for the job, training will be provided.”
How to stand out during the hiring process
“Just be personable. If I can envision myself as a customer interacting with the person I am interviewing, that person is most likely to be hired.
“It’s a social work environment. Customers come for food, drink, socializing, and for an experience. If you can demonstrate that you can enhance that experience, I will probably hire you.”
