Hiring needs

“We have a need to hire nursing team members on a consistent basis,”  says Trevor Cudmore, Administrator Long Term Care Queens. “The most challenging positions to recruit vary depending on the availability of trained professionals, and may include Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Resident Care Workers, and Service Workers.”

Best way to get your foot in the door

“The best way to get your foot in the door is to reach out and connect with one of our team members.”

Two ways to apply for advertised competitions and the casual list:

  1. Apply by submitting a hard copy application form, which is available at the PEI Public Service Commission or at Access PEI sites.
  2. Apply on-line. This method of application is encouraged, especially when applying to a specific competition. Visit www.gov.pe.ca/jobs

How to stand out during the hiring process

“Some qualities and abilities that may be helpful include caring nature, drive for positive change, and having an understanding of Person Centered Care philosophy.”

Terms of initial employment

The probationary period varies, depending on whether the job is casual, temporary, or permanent, and is defined by collective agreements.

In-house training provided

Mandatory education is provided by the employer. Other education-related information is shared with staff on a day to day basis. Funding may be available through various educational funding programs.”

Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities abound at Beach Grove Home and are seen as crucial in promoting the well-being of residents. The benefits of volunteering are very much mutual. Volunteers may gain valuable exposure and experience for their career aspirations.

Volunteers at Beach Grove Home enhance the programs offered through the Recreation Department. Some examples include assisting with the canteen, parties, socials, pastoral care, reading mail, plant care, individual visiting, visiting with pets, assisting residents to appointments at the hair salon, sharing talents such as music and art, and assisting residents with shopping.

Volunteer applications can be picked up from the Recreation Department or the reception desk or call the Recreation Department at 902-368- 6758. For more information, call 902-368-6750.
