Student and youth positions available at Parks Canada

There are 37 national parks and 11 national park reserves in Canada. Parks Canada is the federal department responsible for protecting these areas and for managing them for visitors to understand, appreciate, and enjoy in a way that doesn’t compromise their ecological integrity.

Parks Canada offers a wide variety of summer student positions, as well as other year-round and seasonal opportunities.

Summer student positions

Park Communicators greet visitors and provide information and orientation related to facilities, services, programs, regulations, and safety precautions in person or by phone. They also collect revenue using a point-of-sale system and complete daily sales deposits.

Skills required: ability to work with the public along with general computer knowledge. These are bilingual (English and French) positions.

Janitorial Students work in a team environment as members of the Vistors Experience Team. Their goal is to ensure the Parks Canada facilities are clean, accessible, and welcoming to visitors. They work together to perform a variety of daily janitorial duties, and they also work outdoors to complete tasks such as stacking wood in the campgrounds, picking up litter throughout the park, and cutting grass.

Skills required: Ability to work with the public and the ability to work in a team. These are English-only positions.

Heritage Communicators deliver on-site programs for specific audience needs using a variety of new and innovative approaches. They greet and orient visitors, respond to questions, and provide information about national historic sites, Prince Edward Island National Park, and other sites at Parks Canada and the surrounding areas.

Skills required: ability to work with the public and public speaking ability. These are bilingual (English and French) positions.

The Anne-Imitator portrays the character “Anne of Green Gables” at Green Gables Heritage place in full costume. “Anne” will engage visitors, pose for photo opportunities, and participate in interpretive activities such as old-fashioned games and races, ice-cream making and other potential demonstrations.

Skills required: the ability to deliver presentations as the character “Anne Shirley” using effective dramatic techniques, to work with the public, and to work as a team. This is a bilingual (English and French) position.

Conditions of employment for students

  • Proof of enrollment in secondary or post-secondary education
  • One-day Emergency First Aid/CPR
  • Class 5 Drivers License (Janitorial staff)

Operational requirements for students

Candidates must be willing to wear a uniform and/or costume, work a variable schedule including evenings, weekends and statutory holidays, and work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions.

Housing and transportation are not provided.
