This eye-opening series sheds light on some of the struggles international students and graduates face and raises awareness of their challenges in PEI’s job market.
The video series called Shifting Tides: The Impact of PEI’s Job Market on International Students and Graduates in PEI is produced by the Atlantic Student Development Alliance (ASDA) which is a trailblazing not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering change and inclusivity within the workforce.
Through tailored programs, recruitment initiatives, and services, ASDA support a diverse pool of talent of international students and graduates to thrive in both short-term and long-term employment opportunities on PEI.
ASDA take a holistic and evidence-based approach to help companies become more inclusive and provide equitable opportunities to everyone.
“The Atlantic Student Development Alliance calls out to the Provincial Government and the Federal Government, as well as to employers across PEI, to coordinate and collaborate to ensure that international students and graduates, as well as Black, Indigenous, and people of colour, feel a sense of belonging in the workplace,” says Executive Director Daniel Ohaegbu. “To ensure they have access to programs and services that will not only support them but will also ensure that they thrive.”
This compelling six-part video series, averaging 20 minutes, will be available on ASDA’s YouTube Channel, [Atlantic Student Development Alliance] on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 11:00 am. Mark your calendar for the trailer release on YouTube and Instagram [@asdacanada] on Friday, July 05, 2024. Simultaneously, ASDA will publish an accompanying report on the organization’s press page.
This series, featuring firsthand stories of the different forms of racism and discrimination encountered by international students and graduates in PEI’s job market.
It is not just about raising awareness; it’s about sparking meaningful discussions and engaging the community in a dialogue about the challenges international students and graduates face in PEI’s workforce.
Producing the video series was no easy task. Because the series addresses sensitive topics, it was difficult to convince community members to share their experiences on camera.
During filming, some interviewees visibly struggled to recount their stories and found it hard to recall certain experiences. Despite these challenges, ASDA appreciates the bravery and vulnerability of the participants and hopes that viewers will also appreciate the interviewees’ involvement as much as the organization does.

Thanks to funding from the Anti-Racism Micro-Grant provided by the Government of PEI, ASDA has brought to life Shifting Tides: The Impact of PEI’s Job Market on International Students and Graduates in PEI.
