SkillsPEI Job Fairs to be held in April across the province
Many employers will be there with many jobs to be filled
SkillsPEI will hold four job fairs across the province in the month of April. The job fairs will be a great opportunity for job seekers to connect with employers who are hiring.
The job fairs are for anyone looking for work, including students. A variety of jobs to be filled include long-term, short-term, year-round, seasonal, and summer work.
“The employers who will be at the job fairs are actively hiring,” says Blair Aitken, with SkillsPEI, a division of the Department of Workforce and Advanced Learning. “Employers will have job vacancies to be filled immediately or within the next six months.”
Blair says the employers who are attending are actively recruiting employees from across the province and represent many industries. You can expect to see employers looking to hire from PEI industries such as, but not limited to:
- Aerospace, Defence, Marine, & Security
- Information Technology
“This year, we are encouraging employers to showcase their business and products or services to give job seekers a better sense of what businesses actually do.”
Supports for the job seeker: Employment Resource Centre
At the job fairs, an Employment Resource Centre will provide job seekers with supports they may need before approaching an employer attending the job fair. For example, if an employer accepts resumés only online, job seekers will have access to computers to apply for those positions online.
There will be an area designated for job seekers to manually complete application forms and print additional copies of their resumé. Representatives from employment support services will be available to help job seekers any way they can, whether it is at the job fair or afterwards if other employment support is needed.
“This section will be a very relaxing and welcoming area within the job fair for job seekers to speak with career professionals who will help with any support they may need in finding a job or looking at training options,” says Blair.
How should job seeker prepare for that day?
Come with an updated resumé and be prepared to speak with a number of employers who you may not have considered before. Be ready to engage with employers and make a great first impression.
Employers may want to do job interview onsite. Come prepared with your references, and practice answering typical interview questions.
