The Adventure Group Inc. is a registered charitable, non-profit, experiential education and training organization incorporated in 1992.
Our mandate supports marginalized individuals by offering programs that provide skill development and personal growth through experiential, adventure-based curriculum, supporting participants to learn from experiences both past and present, and apply that insight with life changing results for themselves and their families. We work with clients using an adventure based “learning by doing” approach, which fully involves participants in the experience.
We have been supporting clients through the implementation of the following intervention, prevention programs and supports:
Prosper East is delivered by The Adventure Group and connects farmers and other employers in the Queens County and Kings County areas with social assistance and disability support clients, and newcomers looking for jobs and new opportunities in Prince Edward Island. This program offers a group-based employability skills program (seven-week classroom component) and/or one-on-one on-going employment coaching and mentoring to individuals.
Prosper East is for individuals 18+ who are receiving Income Support and/or disability supports, as well as Employment Development Agency and PEI Association for Newcomers clients. There may be consideration for others employed and not accessing those services. Prosper East assists clients to secure and maintain employment in Agriculture, Tourism, Fish Processing, and Construction.
Sessions are held in Charlottetown and in Montague.
Life Management Program offers 10 weeks of life skills and pre-employability programming. Through participatory in-class learning, adventure-based, experiential activities, and reflection on experiences, this program is supporting youth aged 18-30 to gain the skills needed to break generational cycles of poverty, poor health, abuse and addictions, and identify positive life and work goals. Sessions are held in Charlottetown and in Montague.
ADVENTURE CAMP: we provide an Adventure day camp experience for youth ages 9-14. Our focus is on Empathy and Healthy Relationships. Activities include rock climbing, arts and crafts, stand up paddle boarding and a variety of sports and adventure-based activities. Healthy lunches and snacks will be provided. This program is delivered by our awesome Youth Leadership Team.
Youth Leadership Team: work together to implement and deliver Adventure Camp. They also assist in the delivery of Leadership and self-confidence workshops for youth ages 15 – 17. In this model, youth work collaboratively together to deliver the initiatives. They also set personal goals and challenges to achieve. They all participate in goal setting exercises and each day they wrap up with a debrief that allows them to examine how they will reach their goals.
Community Outreach Centre: We are a daytime (8 am-8 pm) service for clients experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Shelters and other community partners that provide temporary housing do not allow clients to stay during the day.
Our facility includes common areas, fitness equipment, laundry machines, storage, and food and coffee/tea on the main floor. The second floor includes our intake, meeting spaces, and offices for our staff and other service providers to meet with each client to ensure their support plan is coordinated and well-implemented.
Vision: Everyone we serve has the opportunity to lead a meaningful life.
Mission: To connect individuals experiencing homelessness, or those at-risk of homelessness, to client-centred services while meeting their basic needs and providing a safe space.
Funded by the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning through the Canada/PEI Labour Market Agreements.
Funded in part by the Government of Canada’s Skills Link program.
