Shaw’s Hotel hiring for the summer
by Heidi Riley
Shaw’s Hotel in Brackley Beach is a National Historic Site which opened its doors in 1860. It is Canada’s oldest family-operated inn.
“We have 24 cottages, 12 hotel rooms, and three suites in the hotel,” says James Foster, Restaurant Manager.
“After COVID-19 hit, we switched from fine dining to a bistro-style menu. “We now offer homemade pizza, burgers, seafood bubbly bake, lobster rolls, nightly specials, and there is live entertainment in the dining room.
“The atmosphere of staying at Shaw’s is wonderful. It is a five-minute walk to the beach, and we have canoes and kayaks to rent out.
“Unfortunately, subtropical storm Fiona destroyed our big barn and the bikes that were inside. Since then, we have been doing a lot of clean-up, and we hope to be ready to open by mid-May. The restaurant will open around June 1.”
Shaw’s usually employs about 50 to 60 people in high season. This year, they are hoping to hire the following positions:
- Cooks
- Prep persons
- Dishwashers
- Servers
- Bartenders
- Front desk
- Housekeepers
- Grounds maintenance
“Cook positions are what we are looking to hire the most. The more Cooks we have, the fewer hours each one has to work. Days can start at 11 am and can run for 12 hours. We want to be able to rotate people to give them time off.”
