October 19, 2022 – Government of PEI: The province is launching a new emergency payment program for workers impacted by power outages caused by Hurricane Fiona who have not been eligible for other income support programs.
The Emergency Income Payment for Remote and Impacted Workers is a one-time $500 payment for Islanders who work remotely for a business that is not located in Prince Edward Island and had an income loss of $500 or more caused by the hurricane.
This emergency payment is also for workers who were unable to work because of caregiving responsibilities for children 12 years of age or under that were impacted by childcare and school closures and had an income loss of $500 or more.
“We know the power outages from the hurricane caused significant disruption for workers in a variety of ways, resulting in unexpected financial loss,” says Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Bloyce Thompson. “We hope this payment can help alleviate some financial stress for Island workers after what has certainly been a few challenging weeks.”
