“The year-round economic impact of meetings and conventions held on PEI is significant,” says Ann Worth, Executive Director of Meetings & Conventions Prince Edward Island (M&C PEI).
Ann reports that more than 50,000 meetings & conventions delegates have visited PEI in the last three years, and it is estimated that close to half extended their stay for leisure purposes.
M&C PEI has a team of six people who work with almost 200 members and partners to generate meeting and convention business for PEI. “Our members offer a diversity of facilities, amenities, services, and authentic experiences of every size and description,” says Ann.
“Those interested in this field could start by researching the many career options our members offer. Our members represent many disciplines that seek different skill sets.”
The diverse types of businesses their members represent include full-service urban convention centers, boutique-style accommodations, unique rural event venues, restaurants, transportation services, audio visual services, retailers, cultural entertainment, and custom tour operators.
“The future opportunities for building year-round meeting business are limitless,” says Ann. “PEI offers an excellent experience across all four seasons. Some of our members are booking meetings and conventions as far in the future as 2022.”
