In February, SkillsPEI held a job fair at the Cavendish Wellness Centre in Montague. There were about 30 employers recruiting for more than 500 jobs that were available to job seekers.

Atlantic Aqua Farms — Orwell Cove
Jobs: 20 Production Line Workers and Boat Crew positions
Wages: The starting wage is $12 to $13 an hour, depending on the position.
The company offers full-time, year-round work at its processing plant, and seasonal work from May to December at the mussel farming operation.
For entry-level positions, previous work experience is an asset and not a requirement. In-house training is available.
“We are hiring at our mussel farming operations at various Eastern Island locations,” says Beth Fortune. “As well, we are hiring for processing positions at our new processing plant in Borden Carleton.”
Beach Point Processing Company — Beach Point, Murray Harbour
Jobs: 200 Line Workers positions
Wages: The starting wage is $13.05 an hour plus vacation pay, with a 35 cent per hour increase after a probation period of 75 working days. The company offers a health and dental plan.
The plant is open May to mid-December. On-site training and cross-training for other production positions is provided. The company offers transportation for workers travelling from Montague and Charlottetown.
“It’s labour-intensive and repetitive work, but it’s also a good-paying job in a rural community,” says Pam Perrot.
North Lake Fisheries — North Lake and Montague
Jobs: 250 to 300 positions: Production Workers, Equipment Operators, Wharf Labourers, and Truck Drivers
Wages: $13 per hour plus vacation pay.
“We have a location in Montague as well as in North Lake,” says Tara Hill-Burke. “We will be hiring for both locations. We offer employment opportunities in a rural area, and we provide in-house training.”
Montague Bay Foods — a division of North Lake Fisheries, 150 Central Street, Brudenell
Jobs: 60 to 100 positions, seasonal and year-round: Production Line Workers, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Shipping & Receiving, Forklift Drivers.
Wages: Starting at $13 an hour
“People can drop by the facility with a resumé, or fill out an application,” says Tim Simpson, Controller. “Experience for entry positions is an asset but not a requirement. In-house training is available.”

Wages: Wages can vary depending on work location in the building or on the water.

Kings County Construction – Montague
Jobs: Landscapers, Truckers, Heavy Equipment Operators, Heavy Duty Mechanics and General Labourers
The year-round business has about 15 people in the winter for snow removal, and 50 employees in the peak summer season.
“We have expanded our landscaping services to include creating slate and brick walkways,” says Mike Annear. “As well, we have expanded to clearing and maintaining blueberry land.”
“Wages depend on experience, and we provide training.”

Open year round, The Juice Box Café uses local, organic ingredients, prepared fresh on site, to create a flavourful and healthy dining experience.
The eatery has been in business since 2013.
“We are expanding our hours, and we will have music in the evenings. Our first Saturday afternoon open mic worked out well,” says Rob Arthur.
“Our summer hours may go from 8 am to 7 pm Sunday through Wednesday, 8 am to 10 pm Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Spring hours are 10 am to 5 pm.”
He says someone who speaks French fluently is an asset, because French-speaking tourists visit the area.

Wages: $13.50 an hour
“We offer seasonal and full-time employment with in-house training,” says Jaelle Boudreau. “It’s a family-oriented business. The owners work on the floor side-by-side with staff.
“It’s an employment opportunity for Georgetown residents who don’t have access to transportation, as they can walk to work. A good percentage of the employees are from the Montague area as well.”
