The Inn at Bay Fortune is a five-star country inn nestled in the heart of rural Fortune.
Chef Michael Smith along with his wife and co-proprietor Chastity are passionate about offering a world-class culinary destination that offers an innovative communal-style dining experience dubbed The Feast, located in their Inn’s restaurant, FireWorks.
The couple hires about 35 employees, 15 of whom are chefs during the May to October season. Staff also includes housekeepers, food & beverage servers, guest services personnel, a sommelier, dishwashers, a full-time gardener, bell-hops, a property manager, a business manager, and a farm couple who grow organic produce and raise free-range pork.
“Five-star is not just about what you have in the rooms or the products you offer,” says Chastity. “More importantly, it is about the level of service you provide. Setting a high standard as a five-star destination means we expect a five-star level of service from employees. Therefore, we pay employees well above average as an incentive to reach that bar and above.”
