February 25, 2021

by Stacy Dunn

At this time of year, many PEI students are applying for bursaries, awards, and scholarships. The Employment Journey on PEI website has an ever-evolving list to help students, parents, and career development professionals look at what is available.

Besides lists posted by high schools and post-secondary institutions on PEI, we have gathered information on Government of PEI grants and other awards. There are scholarships and bursaries specifically for women, people with disabilities, Indigenous people, immigrants, international students, mature students, adult learners, and Francophones.

Some types of funding listed

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant and Apprenticeship Completion Grant for apprentices

Define What’s Next – Island Entrance Awards were announced in February 2021 by Holland College. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, funds saved through reduced expenditures such as travel allowances are being used to offer 250 $1,000 awards.  In addition, a draw will be held for three full tuition entrance awards valued at up to $10,000 for the 2021/22 year. Students who have applied to enter a Holland College program have until March 26, 2021 to apply for this award. The deadline for other entrance awards in March 31, 2021.

The Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences (CASTL) Financial Award program, supported by the Government of Canada, the Future Skills Centre, and the Government of PEI, was announced in 2020. The program is giving $5,000 to 32 post-secondary students studying the life sciences across Atlantic Canada. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in a co-op education program from Acadia University, Université de Moncton or the University of PEI.

Many local organizations sponsor awards, such as 4H, ResorceAbilities, formerly known as PEI Council of People with Disabilities, Community Foundation of PEI, Island Technology Professionals, PEI Fishermen’s Association, Sport PEI, and Women’s Institute.
