Preventative Health Workshop

Given the many challenges facing Prince Edward Island’s healthcare system these days, the province’s residents need to make as much effort as possible to manage and improve their own health, suggests Charlottetown’s Rookayya Gulmahamed. That’s why she’s organizing a free, bilingual preventive health workshop on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Room 242 of the Don and Marion McDougall Hall at UPEI in Charlottetown. In the event of a storm, the workshop will be held on Saturday, March 23.

The session will feature presentations on topics such as chronic non-communicable diseases, sleep and stress management, healthy eating, alcohol and smoking, and physical activity. There will also be a blood pressure and glucose screening station, refreshments, and swag bags for participants.

The idea for this workshop came to Gulmahamed while she was participating in RDÉE PEI’s “Faut que ça grouille!” training weekends last fall and this winter. The program invited each participant to lead a community project of their choice. Furthermore, she learned that she had potential access to sources of funding, sponsorship and partnership.
