The Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIAPEI) is offering a program, which would combine employability skills, basic cook training and a work experience. The program will provide the essential skills and experience needed to work in a kitchen and become marketable in today’s tourism industry.
For this project, 10 youth will participate in a 22 week program that will provide a combination of classroom and work experience. You will be paid a training allowance during the classroom/kitchen component (not insurable) and you will receive a wage during the work experience.
Upon completion of the 10 weeks employability skills/cook training you will then obtain employment for 12 weeks, with the expectation that the work will continue. You will find the work experiences with help from the facilitators and program coordinator.
There will be a “completion bonus” to participants who successfully complete the 22 week Ready to Work Youth Cook Program.
Each participant will participate in an interview. You must have an interest in working in a kitchen environment. The potential applicant must also be able to prove ability of reliable childcare (daycare and after hours care) and a means of dependable travel. The commitment level must be there in order to be accepted into this program.
Can you as a potential participant:
– Commit to 22 weeks of training and employment?
– Work non-traditional hours? (i.e. 4:00 pm – 12:00 am or 6:00 am – 3:00 pm)
– Be flexible with your schedule to meet the demands of working in a kitchen environment
