Provincial Credit Union is the largest credit union in Atlantic Canada, with $1.3 billion in assets and 190 employees serving approximately 35,000 members in 10 branch locations across PEI.
The credit union system on PEI has grown tremendously over the past number of years, and the “new” Provincial Credit Union is the result of the amalgamation of four credit unions in the fall of 2021 – Évangéline-Central, Malpeque Bay, Provincial, and Tignish.
Currently, the Charlottetown branch is undergoing an expansion to provide a new retail banking area for its members.
Career opportunities include a variety of management, administrative, member-facing, and specialized roles across departments and branches at Provincial Credit Union, such as Member Services Representative, Financial Services Officer, and Account Manager.

Training and development
The PCU Intern Program offers recent graduates a one-year paid internship to experience all areas of the business through a multi-department rotation with the opportunity of a full-time role after completion. Interns will develop a strong understanding of the Provincial Credit Union’s big picture and how each department contributes to the success of the organization.
There is also an Emerging Leaders Program. “One-third of our staff is nearing retirement within five to 10 years,” says Linda. “There have been and will be great opportunities for career advancement.”
Yearly wellness benefits include four personal days off, $200 fitness allowance, and a $750 clothing allowance. They also offer a generous benefit package including flexible health and dental plan, sick time, and six percent contribution with employer match in a Defined Contribution Pension Plan, and a Group Retirement Saving Plan with up to three percent employer contribution.
There is also paid time off for volunteering. In addition, vacation time starts at three weeks.
“We offer flexible work arrangements like start and end times and opportunities to work from home, depending on the position and business needs. We also offer tuition reimbursement and training and career progression opportunities.”
“Staff engagement is very important to us. One of the ways to ensure we have a good understanding of how staff are feeling is to send out regular staff surveys. In our most recent survey completed in March 2023, there was an employee response rate of 87 percent where most staff indicated they would recommend PCU as a place to work. The top five reasons included: People at Work, Benefits, Atmosphere, Compensation, and Leadership.
“We put people first – our members, staff, and board of directors. We work as a team where integrity and being accountable is important to us. We are always looking at ways to continually improve with innovative ideas.”
