The Construction Association of PEI (CAPEI) recently held its third-annual tradeshow. About 28 companies and organizations participated in the event.
Companies talk about their hiring needs:
ADI – Atlantic Door Installation Inc.
345 Brackley Point Road, Charlottetown
ADI delivers commercial and residential garage door sales, installation and service across PEI. ADI incorporated in 2017. The company is owned by Mark Linzel and Bernie Dykerman, who have been involved in the construction industry on PEI for more than 20 years. The third owner is Ayham Daas, who has more than 20 years of experience managing and operating a garage door, access control, and CCTV business in Dubai.
The company is affiliated with BernMar Group of Companies, which includes BernMar Construction, Island ICF, and ADI. At present, ADI uses the services of three door installers employed by BernMar.
“We are now searching for qualified installers to work with us full time because we expect a high volume of installations this summer,” says Ayham Daas. “We have advertised the position on WorkPEI and have conducted interviews and hired one person. We are still looking for more.
“People with previous experience in garage door installation are not easy to find on PEI. We will offer training to work towards becoming a certified garage door installer to interested people who have mechanical skills, an aptitude for learning, and a high level of safety awareness. Safety is very important, because the doors must be installed properly and we don’t want an accident.
“In the US and in Quebec, garage door installers must be Red Seal certified. That certification is not offered on PEI. If someone is willing to stay with us long-term, we are willing to train and help him become certified.”

United Rentals provides construction support for equipment and tool rentals, power and HVAC division, as well as selling new and used tools and equipment. They also offer hands-on and online safety training for individuals and groups, on site or classroom, with a vast selection of courses provided by their own training professionals.
“This year is fantastic in the construction industry,” says Jason Morris. “It is very busy, and we have recently hired extra staff.”
There are 12 United Rentals locations across the Maritimes. On PEI, six local employees work at the store full time, year round. The Manager overseeing the Charlottetown location works from the Moncton branch.
In Charlottetown, an Operations Manager looks after the day-to-day operations. An Inside Sales Rep works at the desk and handles phone calls, internal sales and requests, safety meetings and scheduling, and dispatching for deliveries and equipment transfers. A Technician looks after the equipment fleet and customer owned equipment. United Rentals provides 24/7 service to suit customer schedules and needs.
“The store in Charlottetown just went through almost a complete transition, due to retirement and an unfortunate illness of one of our longest serving employees. Within the last few months, we have hired a new Location Manager, a Technician, and an Inside Sales Rep. A new Truck Driver will start soon as well.
“One of the most challenging positions to fill is Inside Sales. It is a busy atmosphere with many phone calls and lots of traffic in and out. It is a lot of responsibility, but it is rewarding job, and they are very well trained and are well supported to do the job. Prior knowledge of equipment does help, but we take care of training for all our new employees, which allows for advancement within the company.
“We are always open to talking with people looking for new opportunities. To apply, visit the company website. We accept instore applications, but you will be contacted and asked to apply online.”
