CAPEI Youth in Trades
CAPEI Youth in Trades is sponsored by the Construction Association of PEI and is funded in part by the Government of Canada. The program, which is held in Charlottetown and in Summerside, includes 30 hours per week for eight weeks of employability skills, safety training, and hands-on projects in the classroom.
Participants complete small hands-on projects involving various trades at the Construction Training Centre. Participants are working on the Tiny Homes Initiative, which is funded by CAPEI and the Province of PEI. They are paid minimum wage (not insurable) for the classroom portion of the program. They also receive an 8 to 12-week paid entry-level work placement in the construction industry. Hours are insurable and the wage is set by the employer.
CAPEI also delivers the Discover Carpentry program and the Skilled Newcomer in Construction program.
Participant must be 16 to 30 years old, out of school, or working 20 hours or less a week. Certifications provided for Safety Training. Upcoming programs are advertised at www.capei.ca and on social media.
