
Beach Grove Home is the largest provincial run long-term care facility in the province. There are 127 long-term care beds and three respite beds.
Beach Grove Home has three long-term care households. The Meadow household provides a safe environment for residents living with dementia. Sunset and Harbour households provide long term care service to a wide range of residents. The goal is to provide an environment where residents can have their best quality of life while living with health conditions that require a higher care service that is unable to be managed at home.

Wages and benefits
Wages are competitive. Health care benefits, insurance, sick and vacation time are determined by collective agreements. There is also a great pension plan provided by the Public Sector Group.

“We have a need to hire nursing team members on a consistent basis,” says Trevor Cudmore, Administrator Long Term Care Queens. “The most challenging positions to recruit vary depending on the availability of trained professionals, and may include Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Resident Care Workers, and Service Workers.”

Terms of initial employment
The probationary period varies, depending on whether the job is casual, temporary, or permanent, and is defined by collective agreements.

Mandatory education is provided by the employer. Other education-related information is shared with staff on a day to day basis. Funding may be available through various educational funding programs.”

Volunteer opportunities abound at Beach Grove Home and are seen as crucial in promoting the well-being of residents. The benefits of volunteering are very much mutual. Volunteers may gain valuable exposure and experience for their career aspirations.
Volunteers at Beach Grove Home enhance the programs offered through the Recreation Department. Some examples include assisting with the canteen, parties, socials, pastoral care, reading mail, plant care, individual visiting, visiting with pets, assisting residents to appointments at the hair salon, sharing talents such as music and art, and assisting residents with shopping.
