Adventure Group offers help for a fresh start

January 14, 2021

Many people need help to get a fresh start at a better life. With the help of The Adventure Group, dreams can come true.

The non-profit organization provides customized programs to help participants build a solid foundation that includes stable housing, childcare, employment skills, self-confidence, financial literacy, a strong social network, and much more.

I know about the success of this program first-hand. In July 2019, I was selected to attend the Adventure Group’s Prosper program. This seven-week program allowed me to expand my resumé with skills and training such as CPR, Standard First Aid, Food Safety, and many other courses, all while being paid to attend. The facilitators of the Prosper program offered job references and letters of recommendation as well.

I knew the program was there to help me find work. What I didn’t know was the journey I would travel before I reached that point.

I learned the life stories of the other participants, the things they had overcome, the struggles that were still holding them back, and the places they wanted to go in life.

A year later, I was co-facilitating the Prosper program, teaching two courses I had developed, Setting Goals and Career Development Skills. I also assisted in job coaching, and it was an amazing experience to watch the journey of a participant from the start of the group up to the point of finding employment, and I’m honored to have been part of their journey.

Participants include people who may have fallen through the cracks and find themselves facing barriers such as lack of work experience, addictions, or an abusive relationship, and are looking to find success in life. Programs can also help those relying on financial assistance, those with disabilities, and newcomers.

The Adventure Group’s 10-week program helps participants break free of the cycle they’ve been living by creating goals to work toward.

The seven-week Prosper Program helps participants transition into the workforce with a focus on sectors such as agriculture, construction, tourism, and aquaculture, which hire large numbers of people.
